Digging for Nothing
Early Saturday Morning when I was awaken by a loud sound that somehow irritated me and made me get up on my bed. I was really longing for a long sleep but that irritating sound didn’t made me do so..
I asked my mom what was happening at the back of our house and she answered me what was going on, it was a back hoe on the river digging dirt and mud. “That is the Flood Control Project of our barangay,” mom added.
Hallelujah! After many years our Municipality amended an Ordinance on how flood be resolved.
At first, I was quite amazed of the project being implemented by the Local Government Unit in securing our safety. Imagine how the operator of the equipment find a way to be on the river to dig and remove the wastes. To think of how they are determined to finish the project on time.
Our barangay is actually prone to flood from canals and river that causes damage to houses, agriculture and even destroy the lives of the people.
This is one of the reasons why people need to evacuate immediately when there is heavy rain and during typhoon.
The same problem is also experienced in other barangays of the Municipality.
I wonder, what is the use of the garbage cans donated by stakeholders if the residents will not use it properly. People need to be more educated on Waste Segregation Management, it is the only solution on flood control. Wastes that are thrown on canals and people think these rubbish will just subside in the water but it will cause the clog.
And now, what is the use of the back hoe in the rivers? How important to us the operator of it? Digging the dirt thrown by undisciplined persons in the community.
Yes, it may somehow save lives but come to think of it, the Government implemented this project yet people still need to be educated on waste segregation.
I am living near the river so I can see people still throwing their waste on it, yet they are the victims of the disaster. See how ironic is it?
What is wrong with the people? They keep on complaining that the government do not give any action to this issue. The answer and solution to this is in our hands.
This is why all of you are being mathematicians when it comes to Government budgeting complaining that they have enough funds in the said project, questioning them yet you can’t manage to be an environmentalists on your own.
Think of this really hard, it is not the Government who is the only criminal in this case. It is us people who are the victims yet have this asset on improper waste segregation that we all know can cause floods all over.
Are you not ashamed to the driver of the big vehicle digging your waste and got him stink all over?
Are you not worried for your children that can be victims of your own wrong doings?
Are you not worried for the future generations’ situation?
Flood is not friendly, everyone knows that. It can erase many lives on a whole day tragedy. Let’s be alert and be environmentalists on our own.
