Drug testing in high school soon
Legazpi City —The Department of Education Region V (DepEd) assured the public on Monday, July 18 that they are not yet to implement Drug Testing on high school students.
Deo Moreno, DepEd staff said that they are just within the initial stage and still waiting for reports from the government.
On the possibility of drug testing among high school students, Moreno said that if a student’s result is positive, he may undergo disciplinary actions such as automatic suspension from the school. Further punishment will be subjected to offenses and its corresponding penalty as agreed by the committee. Drugs that are to be tested include all kinds except alcohols.
“Drug testing, once implemented, would result to a drug-free environment,” Moreno said. He also added that this project would be a great help to many people who have been long under the influence of drugs that only contribute to rising poverty and crimes in the Philippines.
Within these coming months, Moreno said that drug testing may take effect following the Oplan Tokhang, as one of Duterte administration’s priority.
