Bagong Alyansang Makabayan: Stop destructive mining

Daraga, Albay - Prior to the first State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte, the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan appealed to him to stop destructive mining in Albay.

Vince Casilihan, Liaison Officer of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan said that the operation of large mining industries continue to destroy the ecosystem in the different part of the Philippines particularly in Rapu-Rapu, Albay.

“The mining industry in the country does not only increase the risk of the destruction of mountains but it also affects the lives of the people living near the area,” Casilihan said.

He encouraged the public to be responsible enough in dealing with the environment. “In terms of treating mining in the Philippines, we need to consider People’s mining where we only get what we need and don’t let foreign countries abuse what we have,” Casilihan explained.

Casilihan also challenged the government to provide farmers the soil that they deserve, social services, and sufficient supply of water and to lower the cost of fertilizer.
