All that mobbing and tailback

Dark smoke, deafening noises everywhere, and the melodramatic motion of cars and jitneys all add up to a total urban degradation of the city. This traffic thing has really gotten into our nerves. Why can’t all that cars and jitneys can just move straight away? Why do they have to stop from time to time? It’s an ironic thought that of all the things that we should worry, traffic is always on the list and because of this, everyone would hate traffic. Who wouldn’t if you’ve got piles of work ahead waiting at your desk and if you’ve got requirements to pass on time? It’s like running a marathon and trying to reach the finish line.

In Albay, traffic is a very common day-to-day phenomenon, whether it is in the morning, noon or even at night. The most traffic zone areas includes Daraga, along the market site, near St. Agnes Academy and along Aquinas University in Rawis, Legaspi City. Traffic has become a day-to-day phenomenon especially during school days when students and workers are in a rush. A student from Aquinas said that to be able to get home early, she would eagerly walk from Aquinas to Mariners Polytechnic Colleges to ride a jitney and to ensure that she would have a seat since jitneys are easily get loaded especially around 5 p.m. and onwards when students and employers are heading home. Another regular commuter, a teacher from St. Agnes Academy said that to be able to reach school on time, she would ride the jeep thirty minutes in advance before her classes’ starts in the morning. So if you are a student or just a regular commuter, you may find it frustrating especially if you are trying to reach your destination on time.

The bad thing is, it makes us late for our work and unproductive at some time. Who knows what we might miss everytime we arrive late to school or to our workplaces? It’s not just only that. It might also cause us stress and increase our tension which we all know is unhealthy. Getting stuck in the traffic jam everyday and being worried everytime, thinking about being late may cause stress. People become frustrated and angry and they are starting to hate life. Plus, deliveries don’t arrive on time. Isn’t it a waste of gas, time and money?

Several reasons are noted why we suffer traffic jams everyday. One of which is the rapid growth of the population. The more people, the more cars and the more cars, the more it would likely to have traffic. More so, some trucks loaded with goods sometimes stop to unload, thus blocking the way. Roadwork is another problem which can cause overcrowding of streets and alleys.

In conclusion, although Albay especially in Legaspi City has good roads and modern infrastructure, we cannot deny the fact that it is suffering from traffic problems that arouses effects that damage not only the city but also the people who live there.
