309-M Lafayette Mining Rehabilitation Fund; 27% accomplished
Legazpi City— The Lafayette Mining Corporation in Rapu-Rapu, Albay had a 27% physical accomplishment according to the quarterly monitoring of Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office V.
Based on the approved plan, it has estimated 100% rehabilitation in a span of 10 years with an allotted budget of 309 million pesos.
Now on its second year of implementation, the physical accomplishments were back filing and the preparation of upper storage facility.
From the third auditor of Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee (MRFC), the total expenditure for two years is already 178 million.
Rio Loquinario of MBG stated that the MGB in partnership with the Provincial Government of Albay, monitors and oversees if the stated activities from the approved plan were fully implemented.
She also added that in the rehabilitation phase, the Lafayette mining follows safety standards in back filing to avoid the losing of soil that might affect the residents surrounding it.
The Lafayette management and the Committee on Environment of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by City Councilor Roly Rosal, had their site inspection last August 24, to know the updates on the back filing, rehabilitation of the mining area and waste dump.
Moreover, this September will be the second quarterly monitoring and inspection of the mining site in Rapu-Rapu.
